In April 2009, the Second and Third Platoons, B Company, 1/32 10th Mountain Division, are attached to 3/71 CAV in Logar Province, Afghanistan. Co-located with ANP (Afghan National Police) in Baraki Barak District, the Third Platoon is tasked with over-watching Cemetery Hill, the highest position in the middle of the valley. When an OP (Observation Post) spies an enemy mortar in position to attack the Third Platoon, the Second Platoon is ordered out as QRF (Quick Reaction Force) to eliminate the enemy mortar. The next 12 hours result in chaos and combat and exhaustion for both platoons.

Fantastic small unit action histories that I can't recommend enough. My only reservation is that the editing is terrible. They are complicated works, granted (to a non-infantryman the language the interviewees speak can probably be impenetrable at times), but it detracts too often. On the other hand, they are absurdly cheap. I'm no professional reviewer, so I can't say how interesting they are to an outsider, but I find them fantastic.Product details

Haji Abass and Cemetery Hill Baraki Barak District Logar Province Afghanistan 2009 Afghanistan War Series James F Christ 9781520378572 Books Reviews
This book is well written and engaging for the "seasoned soldiers" among us. Other, less talented writers would have used profanity profusely. This author only chose to repeat it from others.
The author is harsh in his criticism of "fobbits", referring to officers and senior non-commissioned officers who didn't, or wouldn't leave the safety of the rear bases, except to tour the objective once the shooting stopped.
Unfortunately, this isn't a novelty from the current conflict. I saw it constantly during the 720 days I served in the Republic of Vietnam in the late 1960's.
The book should be required reading for all candidates for commissions in all the US Armed Forces.
good story but son that was there and is in book said some things are wrong in the book
I really enjoy reading military books, so I enjoyed this one. My son was actually a part of this unit, he said there were a few things that did not happen the way it said in the book and a couple of facts that were wrong but all in all it was a good read.
As with all of Christ's books he makes a short story a good account of what our boys go thru. Good read for anyone interested in the Afghan conflict.
Small unit action story. I have read a great many of James Christ books, and keep coming back for more.
No sappy stateside nonsense just mud and blood as usual! My only complaint is that James has not written more of these.........
I'm a big fan of James Christ and this book did not disappoint it was excellent a usual. If you're into history like me and you have not read any of his books you're missing out.
